Waterborne Zinc-rich Primer

Performance and Uses

This product is an eco-friendly, two-component heavy-duty anti-corrosive primer formulated with waterborne epoxy resin as the base material, combined with high-purity zinc powder, anti-rust additives, and deionized water. It leverages the principle of cathodic protection provided by zinc powder to deliver exceptionally strong anti-rust performance.

  • Outstanding Cathodic Protection: High zinc loading ensures robust galvanic protection and heavy-duty anti-corrosion properties. It resists salt spray and water vapor penetration, offering long-term protection against steel rust.

  • Eco-Friendly & Safe Operations: Waterborne formulation featuring low odor, non-flammable, and non-explosive properties. With zero organic solvent volatilization (Zero VOC/low emissions), it is perfectly suited for applications within confined plant spaces.

  • High Mechanical & Moisture Resistance: Forms a hard, dense paint film with exceptionally strong substrate adhesion. It exhibits great wear and impact resistance, and stays highly stable under damp conditions without blistering or peeling.

  • Broad System Compatibility: Shares excellent intercoat adhesion with a wide variety of topcoats, bonding seamlessly with subsequent epoxy, acrylic, or polyurethane coating systems.

Applications

Designed for anti-corrosion priming in moderately to severely corrosive environments, such as bridges, steel-structure industrial facilities, storage tanks, pipelines, engineering machinery, port equipment, and marine steel structures. It is widely used across industrial heavy-duty anti-corrosion systems as a highly durable, long-term anti-rust primer.

Surface Preparation

  • The steel structure surface must be clean, dry, and completely free of oil stains, salts, and mill scale.

  • Cleanliness must reach Sa2.5 grade via abrasive blasting, or no less than St3 grade using power-tool cleaning.

  • Control the surface profile (roughness) within 40 to 75 μm. Apply the primer promptly after rust removal to prevent secondary flash rusting.

  • When overcoating, existing old paint films must be abraded and roughened, and all loose or peeling areas must be thoroughly removed.

Application Conditions

  • Temperature & Humidity: The application temperature range is 5 ~ 35°C with a relative humidity (RH) below 80%. The substrate surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point.

  • Constraints: Application is strictly prohibited during high humidity, condensing conditions, or heavy fog to prevent the zinc powder from experiencing flash rust. Do not apply outdoors during rain, snow, or severe wind and sandstorms.

  • Sub-Zero Warning: Construction and storage ambient temperatures must never fall below 0°C. Freezing temperatures will break the emulsion phase and ruin the coating.

Coating System Compatibility

  • Subsequent Coats (Intermediate/Topcoats): Epoxy MIO (Micaceous Iron Oxide) Intermediate Paint, Waterborne Epoxy Topcoat, Waterborne Polyurethane Topcoat, or Acrylic Topcoat.

Packaging Specifications

  • Base (Part A): 20 kg

  • Curing Agent (Part B): 2 kg

Storage

  • Store this product in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated indoor warehouse. Ensure protection against freezing.

  • The storage temperature range must be maintained between 5°C and 30°C. The shelf life is one year under standard temperature conditions.

  • The base and curing agent must be stored separately.

Safety Precautions

  • Maintain excellent ventilation throughout the mixing and application sites.

  • Applicators must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent inhalation of paint mist and avoid contact with eyes or skin.

  • If paint contacts the skin, wash immediately with soap and water. If it splashes into the eyes, rinse immediately with a large volume of water and seek immediate medical attention.
