Epoxy Coal Tar Paint

Performance & Uses

A two-component, high-build anti-corrosive coating based on epoxy resin and coal tar pitch.

  • Excellent anti-corrosion performance.

  • Good adhesion.

  • Outstanding resistance to seawater, cathodic disbondment, and abrasion.

  • Compatible with various shop primers.

  • High volume solids.

Designed for the corrosion protection of ship bottoms and ballast tanks.

Surface Preparation

New steel surfaces should be blast cleaned to Sa2.5 or St3 standard. For surfaces coated with shop primer, damaged and corroded areas must undergo secondary derusting to reach Sa2.5 or St3 standard. Any zinc salts formed on the shop primer surface should be removed by sweep blasting or high-pressure fresh water washing. Welds and burn-damaged areas must be treated to Sa2.5 or St3 standard.

Application Conditions

The application temperature range is above 10–$30^\circ\text{C}$, with relative humidity (RH) below 85%. The substrate surface temperature must be at least $3^\circ\text{C}$ above the dew point, and both temperature and humidity should be measured in the vicinity of the substrate. Application is not recommended when the substrate temperature exceeds $40^\circ\text{C}$. Do not apply paint during adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow, heavy winds, or sandstorms.

Coating System

  • Preceding Coat: High-build epoxy coal tar primer, high-build epoxy micaceous iron oxide (MIO) primer, or SH-D1503 high-build epoxy MIO primer.

  • Subsequent Coat: High-build epoxy coal tar topcoat.

Packaging Specifications

  • Base (Part A): 20 kg

  • Curing Agent (Part B): 2 kg

Storage

This product must be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated indoor warehouse. The shelf life is one year.

Safety

All sources of ignition are strictly prohibited at the paint mixing and application sites, and good ventilation must be maintained. Application personnel must wear protective equipment to prevent inhalation of paint mist and contact with eyes or skin. In case of skin contact, wash immediately with soap and water. In case of eye contact, rinse immediately with plenty of fresh water and seek medical attention.

Disclaimer

  • The protective performance of any coating depends largely on the application process. Application factors such as surface preparation and dry film thickness will directly impact the service life of the coating system. Users must ensure compliance with the specified application conditions when using this product.
